how I work.

Coaching is a listening and questioning practice that helps us get clear about what’s really going on – and it’s how I approach all strands of my work for arts and culture leaders, organisations and individual artists.

Without better clarity thin and quick decisions are made.  The gift of time and space enables better thinking – so that one doesn’t just fall back on thinking as the status quo (or organisation) wants one to think.  This is no small thing.

In my theatre work I’m always drawn to processes that work with uncertainty and the moment – and this informs my coaching practice which draws on curiosity, playfulness and trust.  In practical terms I personally use my coaching skills to manage the precarity and sometimes powerlessness one feels as an artist – especially as an actor.  I find joy being alongside people when they make that energy shift from stuckness to insight and resource.

My approach allows people to think for themselves, to be seen and heard, to shift paradigms and make courageous decisions.  It can help people feel more in control.

“The stars we are given. The constellations we make. That is to say, stars exist in the cosmos, but constellations are the imaginary lines we draw between them, the readings we give the sky, the stories we tell.”
